for my second post I am putting up the link for a news story that is in current headlines. The link is http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/09/24/polygamist.trial/index.html. In the story a polygamist prophet was found guilty of aiding rape. Just reflecting on this it is hard to imagine such practices exist in America still. Just cause we turn a blind eye to certain things doesn't mean that it doesn't go on. The article says marriage were also arranged for girls as young as thirteen. I wont judge, Sometimes though, it is hard to believe the things people do for their respective faith.

Well for the most part it seems to me hinduism as a religion that is almost entirely based on interpretation and choice. There are various gods to pick from and ones guidelines and boundaries are based on ones choices and preferences. Someone could culminate their personal beliefs and forma cult as long as they have a following in the hindu religon. The method of worship also is dependant on the person as there are 4 methods of whorship from spiritual mediatation to doing good deeds. As for me the path that I favor the most is doing good deeds and living life to a higher standard. One final thought since hinduism is such an open religion could other gods from other religions be incorporated? For example could some aspects of the muslim religion be incorporated to form its own hindu cult.

Indian Religions

Hey all hope everyone is doing fine , my assignment is a reaction to our reading in hopfe as I didn't find anything interesting articles or clips to report on. The topic was religions from India and what Coincidence my parents are Indian and I know something about hinduism but not too much. Overall the reading was pretty mcuha rehash of some of the basics things I knew anout the religion. One of the more interesting things about the religions from India are the impact of jainism and buddhism. My mother once told me once Buddha was an Indian prince and I really didn;t believe her. But it says the same In the reading, I admire Buddha eventhough I am christian ,because he truly set a moral code and sysyem higher than any other.He was an honest man and a great teahcer. His teahcing are not really about worshipping him but bettering one self. Surprsing that religions that once arose from India have bigger impact in other asian countries. Another interesting fact here is that hindu literature has changed over time , much like the bible. Does alll religous literature change and evolve over time ?

2nd assignment

hey all,

yea busy first week and all wasn't able to find any interesting articles or events in religion to report about so I will be commenting on famous playwright George Bernard Shaws quote. In the quote he states all religions are the same and there are basically hundreds of versions of it. I semi agree and semi don't. I believe every religion is extremely unique and people all believe that their God or leader is the one person or being that will lead them to heaven or a better life. Every religion has its own customs and practices that are all different. Religion is so numerous people have died for it and struggled to spread it s word. This seen all the way from the crusades to 9/11, all these events were acts that certain people believed spread their religion. So don't believe all religions are the same just with different dressings.

Do believe however the purpose of all religions is one. That is hope and the faith someday when we die that their is something after death. Religion is also a code of conduct that helps control all humankind. When you think about no religion really advocates hate does it? All of them advocated doing good things because it helps in our purpose of getting to heaven after death.Religion is a mental and physical presence which helps everybody live life a little better or more properly. I mean how would one fell if for certain it was discovered their is no God or Afterlife? Imagine knowing anything you do in this life is short lived and after you die that's it. Imagine the lawlessness and state of chaos the world might be in.. I'm out see everyone wednesday.

Surprised to see I'm most like an orthodox quaker(insert bad oatmeal joke here) I don't think conservative but more liberal to moderate. Maybe I answered some of the questions wrong but my main faith liberal protestant is the second choice. Nothing really surprising in my top religions except for Unitarian Universalism. Check out what was , for the most it seems like Christianity but very liberal. They also seem to be very kind and like helping those in need something I like doing. They however promote equality with homosexuals. I have no problem with homosexuals but don't go out of my way to help them out. Every other religion on my list was at 50 percent so no really close matches to my faith outside the Christian realm. Hope everyones enjoying their weekend ...Let's Go Giants!
